After moving to the UK, I'm slowly starting to reb

After moving to the UK, I'm slowly starting to rebuild my physical book list, mainly because I do most of my reading via audiobook but my new house has a couple of bookshelves that need to be filled.

This is a genre that I don't normally read (although I love these types of movies) but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to own a signed first edition from @markjdawson. And get one for a friend.

This is new to hardcover but not a new series, has anyone else read it? What other books in this genre do you like?

I love talking books with people. I remember my joy when I found RBL Romantica over 20 years ago (eak!) while searching for some new books to read. It was an online romance reader message board. Finally, people to talk about the books I love with! Nancy read the books I loved since I always passed them on to her but she couldn’t remember characters, titles or authors (she’s gotten much better) which makes discussing them a little difficult.

This is a fun new genre of books I did not know about before. Josh's oldest son Carter introduced us to these books and I really enjoyed them. I looked and looked for the name of the genre and couldn't find one so... I have named it myself. Sci-Fi Video Game.

Yes you read that correctly. Throughout the book when you are learning about the characters you also learn their stats like in a video game. Things like Health Status, Luck %, Intelligence, Strength and Special Skills. It really gives you insight to what the people can and can't do and changes in their status often have effects in the book. I love listening to their stats, but Carter just skips it when he is listening.

SUPER SALE ON SUPER HEROES by WILLIAM D. ARAND and the other two books were such fun reads. I came to care about the people in the books much more than I thought I would. Really how much would you expect to care for a soul eater and someone who can make multiples of themselves, or a mind reader? If you are looking for something new to try I highly reccomend this series. ~Nancy

In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one.

He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything.

Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game.

Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job.

His entire world changes when the city he lives in is take over by a Super Villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

Surprisingly, not a whole lot changed. Politicians were still corrupt. Banks still held onto your money and criminals still committed crime. Though the black market has become more readily available.

And in that not so black market, Felix discovers he has a way to make his power useful after all, and grasps a hold of his chance with both hands.

Josh (my sweetheart) and I like to listen to books in bed before we go to sleep, or in some cases while we go to sleep, LOL.

The next series he wanted to start was ODD THOMAS by DEAN KOONTZ. He knew the series would be right up my alley.
One of my favorite things about the book is the awesome words he uses. I was laughing last night that there can’t be one regular sentence, instead I am constantly learning new words. My biggest problem is I can not remember them the next day to insert into my vocabulary.

I wanted to share a list of all the great new words I learned but apparently, I need to re-listen to them already because I cant think of even one. One of my favorite words I just never get to use is recidivism.

Went to a writer's conference in London on Monday and met the wonderful Sarah Spencer. She wrote a book called, THINK LIKE A TREE. I was impressed by the premise and the person. I just finished WICKED BITE by #JeanieneFrost and thoroughly enjoyed it. It seemed like the reviews on this was mixed on Amazon but Ian is a wonderful Hero. Sometimes it gets frustrating that Veritas doesn't have a conversation earlier with Ian but her reasoning is justified. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

As soon as I finished WICKED BITE, I downloaded CRESCENT CITY series with HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD onto my phone. I'm so excited to delve back into the mind of the wonderfully talented #SarahJMaas. To be honest, I didn't even read the synopsis before I downloaded it, I've loved her other books so I'm all in. ~Leiha

We had the flu at our house last week. (Sorry to my 10 of fans that I couldn't post). It was awful and I am so thankful for audio books. Basically we listened to the DRESDEN FILES, slept and took pills every four hours. That being said we were able blow through two books in the series and that leaves me 5 books to finish before the new book PEACE TALKS comes out in July. I wonder when you will get tired of hearing about the series since it seems like a full time job getting caught up.
What is shocking to me as I listen is how much I don't remember, even major plot points. I have always been the kind of person who devours books and rushes on to the next one. Never understood how people could remember so much detail and have such relationships with the charters. Whenever Leiha and I attended book events I would have her prep me on what books I liked and who was my favorite people in them. Kind of like "Remember that one book where they were a family and didnt want the sister to be involved with the grifter who also does magic?" She knows every time! It is good to have a bestie like that. How do you read? Do you tear through them like me or are you a detail person? I wonder if one is better than the other or if it is just good we are reading and loving it?

Next week we are going to the Seattle Comiccon and JIM BUTCHER is attending!!! This is my first con so I am not sure what to expect but I am down with waiting in a loooonnnnggg line to meet him in person. I will give you an update after the con. Any advice for surviving it? ~Nancy B

I'm just finishing up my re-listen of SHADES OF WICKED by Jeaniene Frost in preparation for book 2 in the Night Rebels series WICKED BITE, which I can't wait to delve into. This is an offshoot series from the Night Huntress series. I loved Cat and Bones and have been looking forward to Ian's story for a long time. I'm so happy that book 2 is in my hands. I highly recommend this series if you haven't checked it out yet. ~Leiha
