Tonight, Lina, Nancy and I went to see Captain America: Civil War. It had been out a couple of weeks but Jordan, who I normally go to these types of movies with is currently deployed and Lina, my other partner in superhero crime had already seen it twice but she was willing to see it again, she has a strong affinity for some of the characters, luckily our tastes are very different so we didn’t have to fight over our men, yes, more than one, have you seen these guys?
I had read the initial reactions from reviewers about this movie and people raved. I didn’t read any actual reviews because I didn’t want any spoilers, which is very unusual for me, I love spoilers. I knew the basic premise of the movie, Team Iron Man, the guy who is following the rules and Team Captain America, the rebel. Talk about role reversal. I would have thought Iron Man would be the one who was anti-establishment. His reasoning is pretty valid, feeling guilty for the harm The Avengers caused while trying to save the world. Whereas Captain America is fighting for freedom and for his best friend Bucky, aka The Winter Soldier.
When thinking of this review I was wondering who would be Cap and who would be Iron Man between Su and I. Then I realized, both Su and I would do anything for a friend so while we’re rule followers more often than not, we would definitely be Team Cap in this situation so I’m going to be Captain America because I’m blonde and normally a rule follower and Su will be Bucky because she has dark hair and is an assassin (don’t tell anyone).
Marvel’s next big blockbuster right here! You didn’t think I meant Captain America did you? The alternate title was Captain AmericAsian and Yucky.
But before we get to the future, let’s get back to my movie review.
So the premise is set. One of my friends wasn’t happy that the Avengers were going up against each other but I felt like they justified both sides pretty well. Course I was always going to be Team Cap, hello, he’s the hottest one in the movie. My side was chosen before I even knew what they were fighting for. I never said I wasn’t shallow. I’m a sucker for a pretty boy and Chris Evans and his bulging biceps is one of the prettiest boys around. Seriously, there was a scene where Captain America’s biceps was giving me heart palpitations. The movie is worth going to just for that.
One big issue I have with action movies is the fight scenes or the car crashes last forever. I can go eat a burger and the fight scene would still be going on. While there was one mega fight scene with all of the Avengers who are in this movie, the humor kept the scene flowing and I wasn’t bored with it.
This movie brought Ant-Man into the fold. I love Paul Rudd. When I watched Ant-Man I was a little disappointed because I was expecting more humor but he was awesome in this movie. He wasn’t in it long but he made the most of his time in the movie and can’t wait to see him being integrated into the Marvel Universe.
We also met two new characters that will soon have their own movies, Spiderman and The Black Panther. I had heard a buzz about both of their characters in the movie and they didn’t disappoint. I loved Spiderman growing up but have had no interest in their movies. I didn’t see the Tobey Maguire version or the Andrew Garfield version but I just might see Tom Holland’s version. He was funny and adorable. The Black Panther is also getting a movie. I didn’t know anything about his character but after the movie, I’m a huge fan. He’s badass yet he has this wisdom about him and an accent already makes him 20% hotter. Plus he kissed his father’s hand with love and honor. So sweet! I loved Chadwick Boseman and can’t wait to see him in more things, including the Black Panter movie in 2018.
I can’t remember if Captain America is still a virgin but he has a kissing scene with Sharon Carter. Nancy leans over and says, they have no time for kissing, people are after him. I was like, hello, who knows what the future holds, kiss that man! Cap’s friends felt the same way too, they watched, just like Sucky would.
Did this movie change my outlook on life? Nope. But I don’t go to movies for that. For me, movies are about entertainment and escapism. I was thoroughly entertained the whole movie. It had characters I cared about, humor and heart. I can’t wait to watch it again, not in the theater since I’m cheap but once it’s on Netflix I’m all over it. I’m a sucker for all of the Marvel movies and TV shows so I can’t wait to see what’s next in this universe.
Have you seen Captain America: Civil War? What did you think? Who is your favorite Avenger?
