I love taking pictures of my trips but I’m not so good about getting prints made. I have a shoebox full of the last photos I printed and never put in an album. I’m guessing that was 5 years ago. With the advent of digital photos, I’ve gotten lazy with prints. Usually after big trips one of my friends will make me a photo book full of memories from our trip (they are fantastic friends), which I always love but I have to say, my absolute favorite photo book is the Blurb photo book that I recently printed.
How can I not love a book that features me on the front and back cover? I didn’t realize when I used this photo as my cover photo that it would make it look like a cookbook. That sort of tickles me. For people who have known me a long time, The Adventures of Being Me was the name of my first blog. Of course, that had to be the name of my first book.
Plus, since I was putting my photo book together just for myself, it was all my favorite photos, most of them of me. 🙂
There were so many options for how to layout the pages. It took me the longest time to figure out how I wanted to lay my Blurb photo book out. I absolutely love the full size photos. Unfortunately, if I made every photo full size, that would have been a thick book. And expensive!
I also decided on the smaller photos, instead of doing cutesy quotes, to just label where the photo was taken because while I remember right now where each photo was taken, I won’t remember in a year or two.
The color and the clarity on the images are great. There are some photos that I used filters on and if the quality of the image didn’t work, an error notice pops up so there’s no worry about how a photo will turn out.
I had use a different format on my Paris pics so that I could get the Eiffel Tower in the photo. I’m so happy with how these pages look. I decided not to upgrade the paper yet the paper quality was wonderful. My sister, Kimberly commented on how nice the paper was. Looking at this page now, I wish I had flipped it so that the full size image was on the right side so that you could see me more, oh well, live and learn.
Another great option was for $5 more, you can order a pdf of your photo book. This is a fantastic way to email your Blurb photo book to friends. The photos are large and easy to look at. There are blank pages since there’s a blank front and back page in the book. The above screenshot is from my pdf. The images aren’t centered because of the printing. The thicker black side on the page is the side that is bound on the book.
20 page books start at $14.99.
Even without upgrading the paper, the book has amazing quality.
You can put your Blurb photo book on sale on their website. I would put mine on sale but who wants a book full of pictures of me, other than me?
There are many options between size of the book, hardcover, softcover, layouts and paper quality.
I don’t like the blank pages on my pdf. It’s a little thing but it’s jarring.
Rearranging photos on the layout can get confusing. I wish the photos were easier to shift around.
Having so many options are great but it also means you spend more than intended.
Overall, out of the 4 travel photo books that I have, this one is my favorite. It helps that it’s full of my favorite photos. When I get time, I definitely plan on putting together some more albums. I need ones that feature my babies, who are growing bigger every day. I have albums full of Jordan when he was younger but my other nephews and niece haven’t gotten the same treatment so I think I need to put together some family albums. As much as I love the convenience of digital photos, I do love flipping thru photo albums.
